As a result of the coronavirus and the subsequent shutting of schools, nearly 40% of A-Levels students have been downgraded across the country today based on an algorithm by the exam regulator Ofqual.

North Watford County Cllr and education spokesperson Asif Khan said: “It is disgraceful that the government knew the A levels were cancelled since March and in 5 months have not come up with a proper solution for anyone taking exams. All appeals should be free as the government’s poor planning and preparation have let those in education down once more like they have throughout this pandemic. Teachers spent hours calculating each grade through assessed work for the government to trash it based on a postcode lottery. Where you live should not determine your future chances.”
