Labour campaigns with SPD allies
This weekend saw Watford Labour take part in the national campaign day linking up with its German sister Party the Social Democratic Party (SPD) and Alex Mayer Labour member of the European Parliament for the Eastern region. The parties also had informal discussions over lunch on the impact of Brexit.
The theme of the national campaign day was ‘Rebuilding Britain’, Labour’s alternative to the Conservative Government’s austerity.
Chris Ostrowski, Labour’s Parliamentary candidate for Watford and local Labour members were joined by members of the SPD from Watford’s German twin town of Mainz. The delegation of six included members of SPD Youth Section (JUSOS), and two members of the Rhineland-Palatinate Regional Parliament Johannes Klomann and Nina Klinkel.
Chris Ostrowski said: “It was great to have so many people out in force for our national campaign day that focused on the weaknesses of the Tory budget and Labour’s call for a real end to austerity. I would like to extend my warmest thanks to Alex Mayer MEP who had arrived from Brussels that morning as well as our friends from Germany - we're pleased to strengthen our long-standing friendship with our German colleagues; long may it continue.”
